Pierwsze zapiski w dziejach
istnienia czwórki muzyków spod znaku Pantery zmuszają nas do cofnięcia się do
początku nowego tysiąclecia. Bowiem to właśnie w dwutysięcznym roku naszej ery
czterech mężczyzn, wokalista Michael Starr, naczelny szarpidrut Satchel,
rzekomo ładniejszy od najładniejszych modelek swym basem nadający najniższe z
możliwych dźwięków Lexxi Foxx oraz pierwszy perkusista, Razy Luzier zaczęli
grywać na ulicy Sunset Strip, przybierając nazwę organizacji jako „Metal Shop”.
Musimy tutaj nadmienić, że na tejże właśnie ulicy kojarzącej się z zachodem
słońce zlokalizowanej w sercu Hollywood, dzielnicy miasta aniołów, kariery
swoje zaczynali tacy giganci, jak Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Ratt czy Quiet
Riot. W poniedziałkowe wieczory przyciągali widzów do klubu The Viper Room, w
inne dni zaś można ich było ujrzeć i posłuchać w znajdującym się niedaleko Key
Club. Zaczynali oni od grania coverów hairmetalowych kapel.
Niedługo po rozpoczęciu
działalności zaszły pewne zmiany. Otóż nowym pałkarzem został Stix Zadinia, a
sam zespół nazwę zmienił na METAL SKOOL.
Zespół zaczął zyskiwać coraz większą popularność, jednak ekipa ani
myślała spocząć na laurach. W 2003 roku wydali oni swoją pierwszą EP-kę pod
tytułem „Hole Patrol”. Mogliśmy ujrzeć ich na małym ekranie dzięki wystąpieniu
w reklamie firmy Discover, produkującej karty bankowe oraz w sitcomie pod nazwą
„Drew Carey show”. Co ciekawe, ich aranżacja piosenki Aldo Novy „Fantasy”
wykorzystana została jako motyw przewodni programu Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy
Factory, który niektórzy kojarzyć mogą z MTV. W 2007 roku ponownie wystąpili w
telewizyjnym programie, tym razem był to komediodramat pod tytułem „Las Vegas”.
Kwiecień 2008 roku to kolejny
czas zmian dla zespołu. Nastąpiła ponowna, ostateczna zmiana nazwy na STEEL PANTHER. Miesiąc potem wytwórnia Republic Records podpisała z muzykami
kontrakt. Rok po ostatnim podpisie na umowie, mogliśmy usłyszeć pierwsze
oficjalne wydanie zespołu Steel Panther. Na świat przyszedł przyszedł album Feel the Steel. Płyta naszpikowana licznymi przebojami dostała się na 98.
miejsce plebiscytu Bilboard 200, a wystąpiły na niej takie gwiazdy jak Justin
Hawkins, M. Shadows czy Corey Taylor. Piosenkę Eyes Of The Panther mogliśmy
usłyszeć w grze „Skate 3”.
Na przełomie października i
listopada 2011 roku zespół wydał nowy album pod tytułem Balls Out. Płyta
okazała się sporym sukcesem, pokonując w rankingach nowe albumy takich zespołów
jak Megadeth czy Metallica. Rok ten okazał się sporym przełomem dla zespołu z
Sunset Strip. Stało się to za pomocą zespołu Def Leppard, który razem z Motley
Crue odbywał trasę Mirrorball, podczas której stanowisko support’u pieczętował
zespół Steel Panther. Co więcej, pod koniec roku ekipa grała także przed Guns
N’ Roses w The Forum w Los Angeles. Grupa jeszcze w tym roku zapowiedziała
brytyjską trasę promującą swoje nowe dzieło, a bilety na koncerty wyprzedały
się w przeciągu miesiąca. Następnie miejsce miała australijska trasa z wieloma
wyprzedanymi koncertami, co warto wspomnieć sponsorowana przez niejaką firmę
„Brazzers”. Po podbojach kraju szlaku kangurów, przyszedł czas podbić Europę,
co zespół zresztą uczynił grając wiele wyprzedanych koncertów. We wrześniu
zespół wydał swoje pierwsze oficjalne udokumentowanie koncertu w wersji DVD.
Przedsięwzięcie miało miejsce w Brixton Academy w Anglii. Następnie stało się
coś, o czym muzycy zapewne dotąć nie śnili. Zagrali oni dla stu tysięcy osób na
festiwalu Download na głównej scenie. Pod koniec 2013 roku odbyła się kolejna,
można powiedzieć zagrana „do góry nogami” trasa prowadząca przez australijskie
miasta, także wyprzedana. Na przełomie lutego oraz marca 2014 roku odbyła się
europejska trasa mianowana nazwą „Spreading The Disease (S.T.D) Tour”.
Pierwszego kwietnia ukazał się
nowy album, który zyskał nazwę All You Can Eat. Wytwórnia, która teraz
opiekowała się zespołem to Kobalt Records i to w czasie właśnie tej współpracy
ukazały się nowe przeboje wraz z zyskującymi popularność teledyskami. W maju natomiast odbyła się ich pierwsza
amerykańska trasa, podczas której na szyldach to właśnie Steel Panther widniało
jako główna gwiazda. Po zakończeniu jej zespół wrócił do Europy, gdzie grał do
sierpnia. W marcu 2015 roku zespół wrócił na wyspy, gdzie zagrał kilka
koncertów, każdy wyprzedany. Warto nadmienić, że zespół ugoszczony został przez
fanów ryb z frytkami w przybytku pod nazwą Wembley, którzy kojarzyć mogą
niektórzy fani piłki nożnej.
7 stycznia 2016 roku zespół
udostępnił nowy album akustyczny pt. Live from Lexxi’s Mom’s Garage,
natomiast 24 marca 2017 roku pojawił się następny album, tym razem jednak
zapłacono rachunek za prąd, a wydawnictwo utożsamiało się nazwą „Lower The
Bar”. Zespół szedł jak burza i już dwa lata później oczom (oraz uszom) świata
ukazała się najnowsza dyskografia ekipy nazwana Heavy Metal Rules.
Niedługo potem, w grudniu 2018
roku świat usłyszał zasmucającą wieść jakoby basista Lexxi Foxx miał być
nieobecny na nadchodzącej trasie. Co istotnie stało się faktem, gdyż złotowłosy
basista przebywał na odwyku spowodowanym uzależnieniem od ucieleśniania
miłości. Zastąpił go Spyder, by ku uciesze fanów wrócić po nie do końca udanej
terapii. Jednak rok 2021 to rok roszad w szeregach jednoosobowej armii
zarządzającej najniższymi dźwiękami wytwarzanymi na koncertach Steel Panther. Nieprawodopobna
plotka, mówiąca, że basista założył salon piękności dla psów i nie może już
oddawać całości serca muzyce i pięknym fankom stała się faktem. Lexxi odszedł z
zespołu. Rozpoczął się konkurs na nowego basistę zespołu. Po zaciętych
rywalizacjach nowym basistą zespołu został… Spyder. Tak, ten który ratował
muzyczną stronę koncertów podczas pierwszej nieobecności Lexxiego Foxxa.
Oficjalny komunikat na temat nowego basisty ujrzeliśmy w sierpniu 2022 roku.
W końcu w 2023 roku otrzymaliśmy nowe dźwięki ze stajni Steel Panther za pomocą nowego albumu nazwanego On The Prowl.
The earliest records in the history of four musicians, associated with the sign of the Panther force, make us go back to the beginning of the new millennium.
It was in the year of 2000, when four guys - the singer
Michael Starr, the lead guitarist Satchel, allegedly more handsome than any
models with his bass, Lexxi Foxx, and the original drummer, Razzy Luzeir -
started playing on Sunset Strip, under the name "Metal Shop".
We must note
here, that this particular street is located the heart of Hollywood, known as
the Sunset Strip. It’s a famous spot, where giants, such as Guns N' Roses,
Motley Crue, Ratt, and Quiet Riot began their careers.
On Monday nights,
Metal Shop guys drew audiences to the Viper Room club, while on other days,
they could be found performing at the nearby Key Club. They started out by
playing covers of hair metal bands. Shortly after the band's career began,
there were some changes. A new drummer, Stix Zadinia, joined the group, and the
band changed its name to "Metal Skool." The band started to gain
increasing popularity, but the team had no intention of resting on their
laurels.
In 2003, they
released their first EP titled "Hole Patrol." They were also able to
appear on the small screen thanks to a commercial for the Discover card
company, and in the sitcom "The Drew Carey Show." Interesting enough,
their arrangement of the song "Fantasy" by Aldo Nova was used as the
main theme for the “Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory” show, which some may remember
from MTV. In 2007, they made another appearance on TV, this time in the comedic
drama series "Las Vegas."
In April 2008,
Steel Panther went through another time of changes.
Shortly after, in
May, the band signed a contract with Republic Records. A year after signing
their last contract, we were able to hear the official release of the Steel
Panther album called "Feel the Steel". The album was filled with
numerous hits and reached number 98 in the Bilboard 200 list, featuring notable
guest appearances - Justin Hawkins, M.Shadows, and Corey Taylor. The song
"Eyes Of The Panther" was also featured in the game "Skate
3."
At the end of
October and the beginning of November 2011, Steel Panther released a new album
titled "Balls Out." The album was a big success, surpassing the new
albums in rankings, namely albums of bands such as Megadeth and
Metallica.
This year turned
out to be a significant turning point for the band from the Sunset Strip.
They achieved this thanks to Def Leppard, who, along with Motley Crue, was on
the Mirrorball tour, during which Steel Panther was the supporting act. And on
top of that, at the end of the year, they also played as an opening band for Guns
N' Roses at The Forum in Los Angeles.
The group
announced a British tour in that same year to promote their new record, and
tickets to their concerts sold out in a month. After their success in
Australia, which included many sold-out concerts, sponsored by a particular
company called "Brazzers," it was time to conquer Europe, which the
band did by playing many sold-out concerts.
In September, the
band released their first official documentation of a concert in the form of a
DVD.The event took place at the Brixton Academy in England. Then something
happened - something, that the musicians probably never dreamed of.
They played for a
crowd of 100,000 people on the main stage of the Download festival. Towards the
end of 2013, they embarked on another, so to speak, upside-down, tour through
the Australian cities, which was also sold out. In February and March 2014, the
band went a European tour, named "Spreading the Disease (S.T.D)
Tour”.
On April 1st, a new album, named "All You Can Eat” was released. The label, responsible for the band at this time, was Kobalt Records, and during this period they released new hits together with popular music videos. In May, the band embarked on their first American tour, where Steel Panther was listed as the main headliner on billboards. After finishing the tour, the band returned to Europe, where they played until August.
In March 2015, the band returned to the British islands, where they played several concerts, all of which were sold-out. It's worth mentioning, that the band was treated to fish and chips by fans at a place called Wembley, which may ring a bell to some soccer fans.
On January 7,
2016, the band released a new acoustic album titled "Live from Lexxi's
Mom's Garage," and on March 24, 2017, another album was released, but this
time the electric bill was paid, and the publication identified itself as
"Lower The Bar."
As Steel Panther
continued their successful streak, the world was presented with their latest
album titled "Heavy Metal Rules" in 2019. Soon after, a saddening
news spread in December 2018 that bassist Lexxi Foxx wouldn't be present on the
upcoming tour due to attending rehab for an addiction to a certain behavior,
specifically the “physical embodiment of love". This information was
confirmed to be true, as the golden-haired bassist was indeed attending rehab
for this particular addiction at the time.
Spyder replaced
Lexxi Foxx, much to the delight of the fans after Foxx’s less than successful
therapy. However, 2021 brought changes in the ranks of the one-man army,
managing the lowest sounds produced on Steel Panther concerts. An unlikely
rumor, suggesting that the bass player had opened a dog beauty salon and could
no longer dedicate his entire heart to music and his lovely fans, turned out to
be true. Lexxi left the band. A competition began to find a new bass player for
the band.
After intense rivalry, Spyder, surprisingly, appeared on stage as the new bass player for Steel Panther. Yes, this is correct. The new bass player for Steel Panther is indeed Spyder, who previously filled in for Lexxi Foxx during his absence. The official announcement about the new bassist was released in August 2022. Finally, in 2023, we were treated to new sounds from the Steel Panther “stables” with the release of a new album titled "On The Prowl."
